- 1½ cups freshly grated organic ginger root
- 6 tablespoons organic granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons molasses
- 7 cups water
- 1 teaspoon dry active yeast
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Start by preparing your ingredients. Grate the ginger root and set aside. Dissolve the sugar and molasses in 4 cups of water until it is completely dissolved and then add the remaining 3 cups of water to the mixture.
Take a sterilized glass jar or bottle with a lid and pour the liquid into it. Add the dry active yeast, grated ginger root, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if you desire) to the jar or bottle.
Put on the lid securely but not too tightly so that air can escape during fermentation. Place it in a warm spot for about 24 hours for fermentation to occur.
After 24 hours, strain out the solids from the beer using cheesecloth or muslin cloth and transfer them into another sterile container with a lid.
Refrigerate the ginger beer and enjoy chilled!
